History & Goals
The Escola Superior d’Hostaleria de Barcelona is a private, nonprofit fundation, created in 1985 under the initiative of the Gremi de Restauració and the Gremi d’Hotels de Barcelona due to the need to provide qualified professionals in the various branches of catering and hospitality, as well as retraining for working professionals, implementing a new training system “based on skills development and the acquisition of habits, attitudes and values.”
The objectives of the School from the beginning have been the formation of future professionals in this area, on theoretical knowledge, techniques, habits and attitudes. In order to achieve these objectives, the School has a team of teachers composed of professionals with great experience in the different departments. On the other hand, the necessity to put in practice a model of professionalized education, in permanent contact with the reality of the sector, meant that the School was conceived as a vocational centre, being the only hospitality school with restaurants open to the public from Monday to Friday, previously in the center of Barcelona (well-known as the old school of Muntaner) and now in the 22nd district (Diagonal Mar).
